Mud traction tyres for Volkswagen Touareg

Our client has a Volkswagen Touareg V8 with 2 sets of rims 18" and 19" with performance road tyres fitted. The task was to see if we could find mud traction tyres to suit the 18" or 19" rims, as it wouldn't live up to his expectations when taking it off road. The Touareg is a brilliant vehicle mechanically for going off road with excellent ground clearance, electronic low ratio, traction control and diff locks are standard, but the road tyres that are available run out of traction very easily. Exhaustive searching through our suppliers gave us some 18" mud traction options, but at 35" tall were too tall to fit under the Touareg without serious modification to the body work. The solution was to fit 17" rims which are available from Volkswagen as standard fitment on the V6 model. We then had several options of 17" mud traction tyres, eventually settling for Hankooks new 265/70R17 RT03 mud traction tyre. Equipped with 17" rims and Hankooks RT03 our client now has a vehicle that is smooth and luxurious to tour the country in, but will keep up and outperform some serious off road vehicles when the going gets rough.
